My Favorite Record recalls fun and spirited hot jazz-era
music. Rags and early blues styles with a vintage record collector's sensibility
leap out of these startling originals. As a treat, the group includes their rendition
of Willie Dixon's creepy "Insane Asylum." The group seems to have three personalities.
Wammo presents the pre-rock rural pan-folk style while Guy Forsyth presents witty
and ironic damaged pop like "Whatever" (a love song for trendinistas) and the
title track. Rounding out for a third facet is Christina Marrs' delivery of vocal-oriented
jazz songs like "Breathin'" and the Cole Porter-styled "Smile." (4)
