Column for August 3, 2006
Sitting here reading the e-mail got a couple I thought we could read
together.
Brian writes: Hi Ben, every time that I pick up The Gazette, I read your
article. I know that you talk a lot about the local music scene. So, I thought
you might be interested some information about a Farmington Hills resident
Laura Lee Perkins. Ms Perkins just found out that she was in the
Rockabilly Hall of Fame. I was co-owner of Studio 7, which was in downtown
Farmington for 3 years. Ms Perkins wanted to order CDs, so she went
looking for us. We already moved out of the space, but someone else in the
building told them where to find me. My new office for my other business
Visibles is across the street from the Village Mall. We're above the bridal
store and Gala. So now she's a customer of mine. She ordered her CDs from me
and now I'm working on her web site. For more information see
www.lauraleeperkins.com or the Hall of Fame web page

Got this from David Blackburn who works with the Michigan Opera
Theater and the magnificent Detroit Opera House. David wants to let everyone
know about Single Ticket sales for Michigan Opera Theatre and the Detroit Opera
House's 2006/2007 seasons. Following the on the
tremendous success of last year's Internet-only presale, we've decided to
offer it again. Patrons purchasing tickets on our web site will have a
special opportunity to beat the rush and get the best seats. We're also
offering a special--even more advanced--presale for our donors, and there's
still time to make donations qualifying patrons for this program. For more
information call 313 237 3403 or see

E-mail from Harry Rodman drummer for the Bluescasters band. Harry
was saddened to hear of the passing of two pioneering Blues and
R&B spirits within the past month. The legendary Blues Singer/Harmonica
Player/Drummer Sam Meyers succumbed to a long
battle with throat cancer on July 17th, 2006... and local R&B pioneer
Joe Weaver died after complications from a stroke on July 5th, 2006.
Sam Meyers perform with Anson Funderburgh on a
number of occasions when they were in the Detroit/Ann Arbor area. Sam was a
dominate force on stage with his "commanding" voice and dynamic harmonica
playing. Off stage, Sam was a kind soft spoken man who always took the
time to talk with members of the audience, and share a story or two...
Joe Weaver and his High School friend
Johnnie Bassett formed the Bluenotes back in the early days of R&B in
Detroit. The Bluenotes went on to record a few hits and to work as the back-up
band for a number of artists at both Fortune and Motown Records. Nolan Strong,
Nathaniel Mayer, The Miracles, Martha Reeves, Stevie Wonder, and Marvin Gaye
are just a few of the great artists that Joe has performed and
recorded with over the years.
