Column for July 27, 2006

Every time I sit down to write the column I think of that Dunkin Donut TV commercial "Time to make the donuts." Or, time to write the column. Unlike many newspaper people I don't set down with a plan or column idea. I just start typing and see what comes out. OK you can say you could tell if you want. Laugh with me, laugh at me, tell your friends about me, but remember laughing is good for you.

You won't believe this one and I am not making it up. I am sitting here typing away eating my healthy chose breakfast of Raisin Bran cereal with Kool-Aid instead of milk. Using the Kool-Aid not because I don't have any milk in the fridge but because I heard a nutritionist say It is good for you.

I guess back in the day when Mr. Kellogg was inventing cereal he envisioned it as a wholesome substitute for that big greasy bacon and egg cholesterol packed morning meal. He also never intended it to be ate with 15 or 20 ounces of milk.

So this nutritionist say's try your cereal with orange juice or any low calorie drink. Be tuff like the guys in the World War lI and just poor some water on it. I know everyone is saying yuck. But the surprising thing is, It is not that bad. In fact depending on what kind of cereal and juice combinations you come up with you can invent some great taste combinations. Taste great, less calories and other then the skinny little kids that need some milk in their diet, better for you.

OK how about some low-cal plugs and promo's.

I am going to mention 10 area bands. Because they like to see their names in the paper and they keep sending me stuff and it is an easy way to get all their names in one column. Robert Noll and his Pystex, Model Citizen, Dr. Dixie's Good Time band, Killer Flamingos, Bluescasters, Rock's Gang, Cruizin Jupiter, Mango Pie, War Machine, and Ray Street Park.
