OK, time to make the donuts or in this case time to write the column. The wife and
I were laying on the couch watching TV, I was clicking through the channels and
she said tonight is the night Jay Leno reads the headlines on Ch 4. I had sent a
headline in, but pretty much gave up on seeing it used.
Several weeks ago I saw a headline in the paper that read Visteon to lay off 700
workers. The very next story read Visteon gives CEO a 7 million dollar bonus. I
am thinking how wrong is this. I should write about it, or do something. So I sent
it to Jay Leno c/o Headlines 3000 W. Alameda Avenue Burbank, CA 91523 and what do
you know last Monday night he used it. Word for word, I had said, "This is what
is wrong with America."
The Tonight Show should send you a reply or call and say they received your submission.
Or at least call the people who's headline they were going to use. But when I clicked
over to ch 4 and there was Jay Leno reading the headline that I sent in.
It does upset me to hear about crazy corporate wheeling and dealing. K-marts goes
bankrupt all the little old ladies loose all there stock. Then wheel and deal they
come out on the other side with new stock the head guys make millions and does anyone
care about the old lady stock holders.
Poor GM can't fulfill the agreement with their retired workers so they renege on
that deal and all of a sudden GM is now making money. Well, no kidding if I could
just skip paying a few depts I would be OK too!
How about lovely Livonia. Could it be to many city workers with nothing to do? So
they make one crazy ordnance after another, so they can say they did something.
It will be interesting to hear how Livonia explains to a federal court why it ticketed
a resident for not surrounding an inflatable kiddy pool with a 4-foot safety fence.
Or why it sited this resident for parking a van with ladder racks in HIS driveway.
Drive around Livonia or any city you will see lots of commercial vans parked in
the driveways of homes. The ordinance against this is punitive to small-business
owners and should be revoked, not selectively enforced. It is more of what is wrong
with America. Local city government should be working for the people not against
them. Woo I bet Jay Leno would like that line.
I bet
most taxpayers in Garden City think law suites that go against the city
because of city employees incompetence should be paid by the individuals involved, not the
tax payers. You may have heard the story on how the city council and downtown development
people fought over a landscaping bill and ended up costing the taxpayers millions
of dollars. We love that blank check government mentality. It should only cost the
owner of a $200,000 house an extra $100 per year, for the next 30 years.
