Sitting here getting ready to write this weeks column and I see a story about Japanese
auto companies blaming some equipment failures on fat Americans. Not only the overload
on the car but eating, making a mess while driving. They even put out a list of
possible food problems. Chocolate makes a mess, makes everything sticky. Jelly or
cream-filled doughnuts can make a mess. Then drivers often try to clean the mess
while driving. Fried chicken, the grease and crumbs can be
very hard to clean. I
guess we say the same for anything barbecued, throw in chili dogs, tacos and we
haven't mentioned hot soup, hot chocolate or coffee.
I saw a story from Taco Bell who says up to 70% of their business if from the drive
through window. Hence the new wrapped taco promotion, good to go. Volkswagen coming
out with a new dashbord/table for drivers or Americans who eat on the run.
Ooops excuse me, I had to take a short food break. A quick bowl of Cheerios. Actually
these are not even Cheerios they are some off brand Honey Nut/Malt-O-Meal $1.99
a box stuff. But I mashed in an old lemon powered doughnut and wa-la grommet in
a bowl and I'm not even driving a car. I wonder how many people are eating while
reading the column?
A nice place to eat and a great place to get the Gazette is Mayberry's Family Restaurant
27810 Grand River Ave. They always have a stack of papers as you walk in the front
door. If you happen to be reading this there, tell your waitress. If you are the
100th person to do so, she no doubt will give you a big smile.
WPON sports talk radio host Ron Cameron used to tell me, when I write I am all over
the ice. Meaning I float to many topics around. Interestingly I do have several
more topics I want to hit on in this column.
One. I like the Detroit Pistons. They are a true championship team with great fans.
Question, who draws more basket ball fans the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, New
York Knicks, the defending champion San Antonio Spurs or our Detroit Pistons? Well,
if you guessed the Pistons your are correct. Not only number one in attendance this
year, but last year and the year before that too.
Two. You still have time to be part if the March 25th Jeff and the Atlantis reunion
dinner dance. Guitarist Jeff Williams worked with a who's who of stars. Everyone
form Gino Washington and the Reflections to Freddy Cannon and the Rolling Stones.
Many of the original
Atlantic band members will be there along with many local celebrities
yes including yours truly. It is almost sold out so advance tickets only by calling
810 230 2771.
Three. Kelly's Heroes will be at John Cowley's Irish Pub, downtown Farmington Friday,
March 17 St. Patties Day. Benny and the Jets will be at Woodland Bowling Lanes on
Plymouth Road just west of Farmington Road Saturday, March 18 no cover and open
to the public.
