Column for March 2, 2006

Dan Harrington plays bass guitar in the band Yankeville. He sends out a weakly e-mail with tons of local music info, see nightbeatnews@wowway.com. I can scroll down his e-mail and see info on his band Yankeeville, Thursday at Chatters in Westland. A band called Blind Spot, who features a journey in rock history. I like that idea. Animal Factor at Rick's Music Cafe in Redford. Back in Town band, upbeat blues, swing and pop from an eight piece horn band at Boulders in Plymouth. 10 LB Head band at Razzles in Westland. Budweiser and MS. Autorama 2006 Bikini contest at the Bullfrog bar in Redford. Interested girls should come prepared with hair, makeup, heels, a recent photo and wearing a bikini. The audition will be March 3 and 4 at the Bullfrog 15414 Telegraph Road see www.bullfrogrocks.com or call 313 533 4477. If anyone gets photos feel free to send them to benejets@aol.com.

The Livonia Soccer Club benefit dinner dance held Crystal Garden in Southgate was a great success. Connie and her volunteers should be very proud. The night started off with cocktail hour followed by a dinner that featured roasted chicken, top round of beef, breaded pork tenderloin in a specially seasoned sauce, red skin potatoes, fettuccine alfredo, salads, rolls, ice cream sundae and cake. Then came a magic and comedy show that featured Jim Carmody, who had the crowd entertained from the minute he hit the stage. When the band started at 8pm there were many prizes and gifts to be passed out from the sponsors; Herc's, Mama Mia, Steak and Ale, Sandtraps on 5, El Nibble Nook, Eastside Marios, Buca di Beppo, Exhibit Works, Logan's Steakhouse, Outback Steakhouse, Courtyard Marriott, Consignment Outlet, Noodles and Company, Giulio's Cacina Italiana, Kickers American Grill, Romano's Macaroni Grill. For so many area establishments to sponsor the event just makes you proud of everyone involved.

I received a great color poster from Jeff Williams. Jeff played guitar in Jeff and the Atlantics. His band opened for the Rolling Stones at Cobo Hall in the 1960s. He recorded with the Reflections, Gino Washington and his own band, who became a fixture in the area music scene during the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. The Atlantics' reunion 2006 party, concert and dinner dance will be Saturday, March 25 at the Wayne-Ford Civic League. Entertainment will feature many of the former Atlantics, and Geno Washington, Dennis Charles, Candy Foster, Rusty Horseshoe Hopkins, Rocky Barra and yours truly with several all-star mystery celebrities. This is a must attend for any oldies Michigan music fans. You need to make reservations for this event by calling 810 230 2771 or e-mail jatlanticreunion@aol.com.
