Column for February 16, 2006

I am not going to write about Muslims. I am not going to write about Africans, Indians, Jews, Italians, Europeans, or Asians. I am not even going to write about the Olympics or cartoons or news coverage. I am going to try to stay away from writing something that would make any one group of people mad, uncomfortable or dislike me more than they already do.

I am going to try to stay close to home, close to the people I know. Close to the people who don't like me because they know me. That of course is meant to be funny. It is getting very hard to be funny or even happy. But we need to be happy. Even if it means we have to work hard just to stay happy. Try not to let the news of the world or the traffic or weather make you unhappy. Do as I say not as I do. CD happy. That of course is not really true either I am happy all the time. I think?

My muffler fell of the mini van the other night. That didn't really make me happy. I am glad it happened in Farmington in a dry parking lot as opposed to when I was downtown Detroit with all the freezing rain and all the Super Bowl traffic. When I crawled under the van I discovered It is possible to wiggle the muffler pipe around, pull it forward and it slides our of the muffler hanger. Then wiggle it over the axle and I am good to drive home.

My benefit dinner dance gig for the meals on wheels people went well. This made me happy.
There was food, music, prizes and good times for all. Bonnie Sanders from Farmington came with her grand kids. The kids had a lot of fun dancing around, maybe not as much fun as the rest of us had watching them.

The Livonia Soccer Club is having their benefit dinner dance Friday, February 18 at Thomas Crystal Gardens in Southgate. And they have some leftover tickets that they would like to giveaway. Hmmm you read that right giveaway. They would rather have the bodies in the seats then empty seats. If you are a happy person who likes to eat, dance and have fun, call Connie at 248-476-2822. tell her you read about the event in the paper and would like to know if she has any tickets left.

My town meeting at John Cowley's Irish Pub went well. I might even say better then expected. So well we are going to do it again Thursday, February 23. I think in Ireland they reefer to a pub as a public meeting house. If you haven't been to the famous pub on Grand River just east of Farmington Road this is your invitation. We had quite a mix of people young, old, couples, singles, professionals, even girls in mini skirts. Pam watched her lovely daughter Rhoda sing some Karaoke during the band break. Brian a recently divorced Farmington resident played unofficial host and volunteer dance partner. Glen and Dave from Farmington's Recreation Leisure Power Sport Super Store on Grand River gave Cowley's food a two thumbs up. Glen looked sharp wearing the latest Joe Rocket leather fashions which they sell at their showroom. Raymond the bartender who looks a bit like Paul McCartney says Tim, Sean and the staff at Cowley's are very proud of the job they do. A great place, great food, great service and they support live entertainment.
