Column for December 1, 2005

Christmas is coming. They started all the Christmas hype extra early this year, but I am OK with it. Maybe with all the trouble in the world people are ready for a break. I sent the Benny and the Jets X-mas CD to Kevin O'neil at WNIC 100.3 all Christmas music radio. Kevin is on from 2 till 7pm.

I used to see Kevin when he worked at WHND Honey Radio with Larry London. Back then we were promoting a song called the Christmas Twist. The good thing about a Christmas song is it can come back every year. The bad thing is it is only good for that few weeks before Christmas. So I hope you get a chance to hear the "Christmas Twist" you can call WNIC at 313 298 1003 and request our song or e mail Kevin and tell him we wrote about him in the Gazette kevinoneill3@clearchannel.com.

Also promoting his Christmas CD is my friend Arlen Viecelli. Some will remember Arlen as the lead singer for the 70s Livonia rock band Salem Witchcraft. Some will know him as the little old man carpet man from USA Floorcovering. Either way he is the greatest unsigned singer in America. Arlen finally got his web site up and running www.arlenrocks.com. Please take the time to go to his site give him a word of encouragement Arlen recently met with Jim Harper and WMJC who will sell some of his "Holy Knight" CDs for five dollars with the money going to their Toys for Tots program.

Speaking of money going for a good cause. Fanchon Stinger the Fox 2 TV morning news person who lives in Farmington Hills was a presenter at the sixth Remarkable Women Luncheon. The charity event raised more then $18,000 for women's health research.

Speaking of TV 2 we had Sports Director Dan Miller on my WPON radio show. The show is every Wednesday 5 till 7pm www.wpon.com or 1460 on the AM dial. We talked about the Lions and Kevin Poston of Farmington Hills who represents Lions receiver Charles Rogers. Seems the Lions have filed a grievance with NFL asking for $10 million pay back of his 2003 signing bonus.

More entertainment news from Jerry Patlow of Farmington, Jerry who represents 1960s recording stars like Freddy Boom Boom Cannon, Chubby Checker and Bo Diddley also works locally with the Tommy C band. Jerry lets us know Tommy C's brother, international known jazz trumpet player Chris Clifton will be in town. Clifton will be performing Sunday, December 11 at Bakers in Milford, but the reason he is in town he is currently living with brother Tommy because his home in New Orleans was destroyed in Hurricane Katrina. His home his instruments and a life time of memories all gone. The Authentic New Orleans Concert will be a celebration of life and music. Bakers is on 2025 S. Milford Road just two miles north of I-96 for tickets or more information call 248 417 0033.
