Column for November 24, 2005

I am a regular caller to sports talk radio. I check in with JT the Brick on Fox Sports Radio WDFN am 1130 every Wednesday night or would that be Thursday morning at 1:10am.
We call it Hard Core Wednesday. We talk about everything from the untimely death of WWE wrestler Eddie Guerrero and NASCAR to the red hot Detroit Pistons and the up coming Detroit Superbowl.

Which reminds me Farmington is supposed to be a Supercity. An official city participating in the XL Superbowl festivities. Wouldn't it make sense for someone at City Hall to do something? Make a call, return a e-mail, contact Rona Danzinger?

I know right now people at City Hall are saying who is Rona Danzinger? And here I am saying who is in charge of Supercity planning? That may be part of the problem. Ms. Danzinger is the program director of WDFN the 24 hour clear channel sports radio station headquartered on Halsted and 12 mile.

The Superbowl is going to be a great event. If our area is going to participate the city, the local radio station and newspaper should all be involved. Someone in charge better make some phone calls soon.

Locally sports fans should be proud of the nationally ranked Farmington Hills Harrison football program. Using its final high school football rankings from 1982 to 2003, USA TODAY identified the nation's top 25 programs over that 22-year span. Schools were awarded 25 points for a first-place season finish, 24 points for a second-place finish and so on. Farmington Hills Harrison placed 14th in the nation.

Harrison's Donald Connelly deserves some recognition. He is the teams only three-year starter played defensive end, fullback and tailback. He lead the team in unassisted tackles and is third in total tackles. Congratulations to Connelly, coach John Herrington and the entire Farmington Hills team.

Last week I mentioned Benny and the Jets already promoting our New Year's Eve party at the Metro Airport Best Western Hotel. I asked for cubs and entertainers to check in. I heard from a few. Local music promoter Vic asked if we could mention his sons band named The Silent Years and their web site www.thesilentyears.com. The group of young men look like they could be headed for a national break out. You might want to catch them November 25 at the Lager House in Detroit or December 21 and the Magic Bag in Ferndale.

Lets see also heard form entertainer TK Scott promoting his New Years Eve at the Tin Fish
