Column for November 17, 2005

Zipity do da, Zipity day, me oh my what a wonderful day. OK, I guess the holidays are here. Halloween came and went. I don't think we had five kids come to my door. Grandpa Sanders still clams he had over 100 trick or treaters in his neighborhood? Though he did give out bags of potato chips. Now I hear WNIC radio is playing all Christmas Music 24/7.

Hmm that reminds me if WNIC is playing all Christmas music I will have to dig out the Benny and the Jets Xmas CD and our pal Arlen "Salem Witchcraft" Viecelli's and send it to them. You might remember me raving about Arlen's Christmas CD last year. Still the very best undiscovered singer on the planet. With all that music being played you would think Farmington's own Clear Channel station could find some air time for local content?

My friend Bob Harris is 80 years old. He is on the go all the time, which is probably what keeps him young. Many years ago he ran teen clubs, promoted concerts, managed bands, had a teen magazine and has met and worked with everyone from the Red Wings to the Rolling Stones.

Bob came to see my band Thursday at Lora's bar on Telegraph south of I-94 soon to be named Bakers Pub. We talked about his son Tony's band the Travlin Blues and told me about the big Holiday Doo-Wop Show, December 10 at the Detroit Opera House.

This show will feature several of the ch 56 Doo-Wop performers including the Marcels who sang "Blue Moon," Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs who sang "Stay." The Falcons "You're So Fine" and Percy Sledge "When a Man Loves a Woman."

Cringing at the thought of the first snow storm, I put plastic up over all my windows to try to conserve energy and lower my heat bills. I also ordered a load of wood for the fireplace. I found a place called Dearborn Tree Service. Not only do they deliver and stack the wood, they trim trees, remove brush and shrubs and do storm damage for Farmington, Livonia and Dearborn. You might want to keep their number on file 313 728 1346.

Geez, please someone tell me it is to early to mention Benny and the Jets annual New Year's Eve party at the Metro Airport Best Western Hotel. Several different packages available that include dinner, dancing, band, DJ and Karaoke. You can get a room, with a hot tub, use the pool and sauna and can't forget the chocolate covered strawberries, Champaign and 2006 balloons dropped at midnight. For more information or reservations call 734 728 2800.

If your favorite club, band or entertainer is planning a holiday party let me know so we can get it in the column.
