Column for October 6, 2005

Bob Talbert used to say "Out of my Monday Mornin Mind." You get the idea, moanin' complaining or like newspaper people like to say promoting the free exchange of ideas.

I have a few ideas to put in the mix. I would like to see Tiger baseball manager Alan Trammel get to complete his current contract. One more year. One more chance for the 84 World Champ.

I would like to see our former Farmington Hills Harrison QB Drew Stanton have that magic season all Spartan fans dream about. I would like to win the Lotto, see the Lions win and the price of gas drop but I won't get crazy.

The price of Gas has often been a topic in this column. For many years I drove a full size Chevy Van with Benny and the Jets band painted on the side. When gas hit $1.50 I downsized to a Ford mini van. Now that it is over $2.50 per gallon I am considering downsizing again. I should be able to find a little car that the seats fold down, cram my guitar and band equipment in and still get 25 MPG?

Now that I have been keeping an eye out for a little car I hear we may get swamped, pardon the pun, with cars that have been flooded by hurricane Katrina. Seems every time you have a huge disaster, thousands of damaged cars end up on the used car market, many of them thousands of miles away from the floodwaters.

Just think of all the cars that were in that Gulf Coast area. Thousand and thousands of cars many of them completely under water for days if not weeks. And there isn't anything illegal about selling a car that has been damaged by a flood?

One way to determine if a car came from a flood area would be to check its history. History reports are available from many car dealers for free or you can buy the report from www.carfax.com. Might be a good idea to check where that next car came from especially if you plan on buying one in the next few months.

Last week I mentioned taking time to smell the roses. This week I hear Farmington Hills radio station "Channel 955" and popular morning DJ Mojo may be in hot water with his "War of the Roses" on air contest. Seems once a week the DJ asks for ladies who want to set up their men. Mojo then calls the unsuspecting man to tell him he has won a contest and gets to send free roses to the lady of his choice. Seems the latest guy didn't send the flowers to his wife needless to say the wife was not very happy and the guy not to happy about being set up.

If I won some roses I would send them to newly weds Jeff and Dawn Boris. Jeff plays in the band Illegal and the KISS tribute band War Machine, he and his lovely bride had a fairy tail wedding at the famous Ginos Surf. Celebrity impersonator Kim Leonard did a great Dean Martin show. Benny and the Jets performed despite our PA blowing up, because the groom happened to have a spare one in his car. WOW!
