Column for June 16, 2005

Heard from a lot of folks this week. Some wanted me to tell the story of when friends of mine streaked the McDonalds as a graduation prank. Some wanted me to explain what streaking was.

I thought maybe we could say congratulations to all the students and the teachers who taught them what they needed to know to graduate. A special hello to valedictorian Ann Marie Brouillette and co-valedictorian Gunjun Sud from Farmington High School.

Heard from photographer and Livonia Churchill Alum Don Nicholson who wanted to let people know about his annual car show is coming soon, June 27 at the Western Wayne Skill Center, Ann Arbor Trail west of Merriman. Lots of fun and some great sponsors have joined in to make this a great event.  World renowned artist Sergio Degiust  has donated our number one bronze trophy www.semcosh.org/labor_monument.htm. Livernois Motorsports will be there with a portable dyno tester.  Show T-shirts and some great entertainment. For more information see www.donnicholson.net/carshow.html

They also have the Livonia Churchill Alumni Summer Bash on June 18 at the Waterford Bed Park in Hines park.  Both of these events are fund raisers for the Western Wayne Skill Center. For more information see www.ChurchillAlumni.com

Heard from Tearaway Tom, who says Oakland University's WXOU-FM can now be listened to on the Internet for free. Check it out at www.wxou.org. The station is run and staffed by students and provides and eclectic, freeform format where local music and more remote underground sounds can be heard. Tom's show is Tuesdays 10pm-midnite.
Heard from Phil the TV Man, who heard about an idea to show support for the troops by wearing red every Friday. He wants to inform the local VFW's and American Legion, the local press, local TV, and carry the message to the national levels to promote the idea of showing solidarity and support for the troops. So starting Friday, and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, every red -- blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.

Heard from musician Robert Bruce who has been working with www.tweetytunes.com The web site that works like a singing telegram. They make custom made song on CD for birthdays, anniversary, graduations and the like. Robert says we should remind people about the 3rd annual Pontiac-Waterford Elks Car Show and Sock Hop Dance, Saturday, June 25, from 11:00am till Midnight. 2100 Scott Lake Road. This show is open to the public and one of the best car shows in the area. You can call 248-673-9860 for more information.
