Column for June 2, 2005

Remember that song sung by Bobby Mcferin, Don't worry, be happy? It said, Here's a little song I wrote. You might want to sing it note for note. Don't worry, be happy. In every life we have some trouble. But when you worry you make it double. Don't worry, be happy!

I have had several e-mails from people worrying that I am not happy. They think the column has been mean, edgy, even stressed. But don't worry, I am happy. I just see so much unhappy stuff around me everyday. I guess maybe I do worry, but I'm happy!

I am driving down the road, a junky car whips by me with a pick up truck right on his tail, then a motor cycle slips between them and me. People drive so crazy and they don't have to be drunk, they are just crazy. But don't worry, be happy.

I see a young mother at McDonalds yelling at her 3 year old baby, "Eat you food now." We all know it is very hard to be a young mother, but I want to tell her, don't worry, be happy. That kid will eat plenty when she gets hungry.

So many people let the worries in life, keep them from being happy. They think, as soon as I get a new car or as soon as I get a job, or a better place to live, I will be happy then. The problem is, you have to work at being happy now.

When you go through life happy, good things seem to happen. Go through life upset, bad things seem to follow and regardless being unhappy is not going to fix your problems. Being unhappy is not going to get you a new car, a new job or solve your problems. So be happy.

I would like to think skateboarding is not a problem or a crime, but I believe they did make an ordnance against it. You know my thoughts on ordinances, for every ordnance there is a government worker with nothing to do. So now, do I hear that Farmington wants to spend $500,000 on a skate park? You know my thoughts on spending tax money, every dollar the government spends is money the private sector is not going to. In other words if the government is going to build a skate park, movie house or apartment building how or why would anyone in the private sector build one.

We know Livonia had plenty of problems with there skateboards. First they outlawed them. Then they build a park for the skateboards, then they sneak in a fee. Only in America out law something then charge to do it.

I see Howell is opening a skate park paid for by volunteers, a very interesting concept. The volunteers have already raised more then $93,000 to build the $280,000 skate park. Also interesting a skate park in Howell cost half a much as a skate park in Farmington and booth cost twice as much to build as my house. But I am not going to worry. I am happy.
