Column for November 4, 2004
I been writing this column for many years about people, places, events, and things
to do. I am fond of saying I don't have the answers, most often I don't even know
the questions, just have some observations.
Over the years the column has become easier and easier to write because I get lots of input from readers. Needless to say I encourage input because it makes it easier for me. Feel free to e-mail me at benejets@aol.com or use the answering machine at (313) 730-1627. Let me know what is on your mind, your favorite movie, restaurant, waitress, bartender, band, Karaoke place. Let me know the best place to shop or best hamburger in town.
I like rich and famous people sightings too. Johnny Ginger often checks in. I think he is probably rich and famous and knows who is who around town. Everyone from Sunny Elliot to Steve Yersman.
Harry Rodman plays drums in a band called the Bluescasters. he tries to keep me up to date on the blues scene. Robert Noll , the Witch Doctors, the Alligators, Mudd Puppy, Sax Maniacs, Mike Katon, Little Sunny Girl, all local favorites.
I recently got an e mail that mentioned the best of lists: Best intimate live music venue: the Magic Bag, in Ferndale. Best big music venue: DTE Music Theater. Best club to hear hip hop: St. Andrew's Hall, in Detroit. Best folk club: the Ark, in Ann Arbor. Best blues club: Memphis Smoke, in Royal Oak. Best comedy club: Mark Ridley's Comedy Castle, in Royal Oak. I wonder if any readers have been to all of those places?
This list also cover some places to eat. Best seafood: Tom's Oyster Bar, various locations. Best Mexican: the Xochimilco, Detroit. Best Buffet: Motor City Casino, Detroit. Best Steak: Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, in Troy. Best Pizza: Pizza Papalis, various locations and Best Ice Cream was Stone Cold Creamery, all locations. This was a pretty good list but feel free to let me know some of your favorites.
I put a lot of time into the Benny and the Jets web site. If you go to Bennyandthejets.com then to the message board page, you can find all kinds of information, where the band is performing, photos, the product page with hats, T-shirts, CDs. Gee that is product page in time for Christmas. Seems way to early to think about Christmas. There is a nice link page to other sites of interest, a LIONS football page we are trying to get started and all my past columns are posted there too.
